How does transport work in London?

London City is split into Zones 1-9. Zone 1 is the centre of the city and most tube lines stop around Zone 6. Traveling between zones costs a set rate depending on what zones you travel through, Zone 1 being the most expensive. TFL or Transport For London run a ticketing system called Oyster. You get one from any tube station and it works like a membership card that you can either top up or buy travelcards for – daily, weekly or monthly and students can apply for a discounts on these. All ticket costs can be calculated on the TFL website – www.tfl.gov.uk
